Luchita Hurtado was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1920. Hurtado arrived in New York City in the 1930s. She studied at the Art Students League and did illustration for Conte Nast and Vogue magazine. She moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1949 and settled in Mill Valley. She currently lives in Santa Monica, California.
