Biography Albert De Meuron
The painter from a Neuchâtel artist dynasty studied from 1841 four years with the history painter Hermann Stilke and Carl Sohn in Dusseldorf and then continued to educate as a student of Charles Gleyre in Paris. In 1848 he exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon. The artist often spent the summer months on Lake Brienz, where the brothers Karl and Edouard Girardet and Benjamin Vautier were also active. His friends included Léon Berthoud, Albert Anker and Pierre de Salis, whom he met during his regular stays in Paris. Albert de Meuron also created landscape views on the Bettmeralp, in Grisons, in the Jura and - as the fruit of a journey with the painter colleague Gustave Colin - in the Basque Country.
