Edwin Elias Witham (1911-1998)
He was born in South Thomaston, Maine, on July 31, 1911. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1929 and went on to pursue an education in painting graduating from Boston's School of Practical Art in 1933.
In 1969 he won the Charles L. Fox Purchase prize for his painting Bygones which was placed in the Farnsworth Art Museum's permanent collection. In 1970 the Farnsworth honored Mr. Witham with a one-man show of his paintings. He also exhibited at the Portland Museum of Art.
In 1978 Governor James Longley requested an exhibit of Mr. Witham's painting in the Hall of Flags at the Statehouse in Augusta.
