Hannah Headlee

Hannah Haynes Headlee was active/lived in Kansas.  Hannah Headlee is known for china painting, quilting and teaching.

Biography   Hannah Headlee


Born Topeka, Kansas about 1867, Hannah Headlee was an artist, quilter, teacher and china painter.  She supported herself primarily through her art lessons and married three times.

She is remembered as the first woman in Topeka to own a bicycle.  In 1914 she chaperoned her niece, Pauline Haynes Shirer, to the New York School of Fine and Applied Art, where she paid their living expenses with china painting.

In Topeka she lived at 719 Taylor, 1890-1891 and in 1916, she lived at 118 W. 8th.

Her quilt, "Iris Garland", is one of the most spectacular pieces in the Kansas State Historical Society's collection.
