Biography Jose Maria Vazquez
José María Vázquez received his training as a painter in the Academy of San Carlos, where he was granted a pension and later acting director after the death of his master Jimeno and Planes. He emphasized as portraitist and also had an important production of religious work of neoclassical style. He was in charge of making a portrait of the first ruler of Independent Mexico, the emperor Augustine de Iturbide. His work is in the Museum of the Viceroyalty, the National Museum of Art and the National Museum of History of Mexico, among other venues.
