Courtenay Foote was born in 1879 in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. Foote was educated at Oxford University, in France and Germany. By 1910 Foote had moved to Hollywood and was acting in silent movies for D. W. Griffith. When not making movies, he painted portraits and landscapes as a hobby. He died while vacationing in Italy on May 4, 1925.
