(1914 - 1980)
Jije was active/lived in Belgium. Jije is known for drawing, illustration, comics.
In 1975, Joseph Gillain aka Jijé celebrated his 40-year career in comics at the Chiroux cultural center in Liège. On
this occasion, he designed this beautiful ensemble - a veritable museum
piece - by staging one of his virtuoso black-and-white boards, where
Jerry Spring meets a disturbing group of Indians as he progresses toward
a fort. Having lived in the United States, Jijé
has a vision of the Amerindians much more subtle than that conveyed by
most Westerns of that time: he contributes, with the Charlier Blueberry
and Giraud, to reform the most ordinary clichés.
