Mary Steinhauer was born in Carondelet, Missouri in May 1863. Steinhauser was still living with her family in Carondelet in 1900. During 1917-20 she lived in northern California and maintained an art studio-gallery in Eureka. While there she painted landscapes of the majestic redwood trees and taught small classes. A spinster, she was living in Kirkwood, Missouri by 1930.
