Born in Pennsylvania in 1886. Continuing in a long line of artists, William was a descendant of portraitist Thomas Sully. By 1919 he had settled in San Diego. He worked there with Robert Cordtz as a sign painter while painting fine art in his leisure. His work includes figure studies and Chinese genre. An alcoholic, he was still in San Diego in the 1940s.
