James Aschel Maryott b. 1908 d. 1992 was a commercial house painter by trade. He moved his family from Nebraska to do war work in Vanport Oregon during WWII and settled in Grants Pass Oregon where he built a home and raised his children. In 1959, the family moved to Corvallis Oregon so all the children could attend college. He was the nephew of the better known painter Miles Maryott. He painted occasionally for fun. His pheasant painting was made in 1939 as a gift to his new bride Grace Lee of Long Pine Nebraska.
