James T. Shaffer (American, 1903-1986) was a noted artist, illustrator and teacher, often known for his portrait and figurative works, landscapes, still lifes, floral still lifes, architectural and illustrative pieces, children and animals.
Shaffer taught part-time at the Albright Art School in the 1930's and was a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists. His finest paintings were done during that time period. During WWII he worked at Scott Aviation in Buffalo, NY and continued working there until he retired. In this sense he was a "Sunday Painter", specializing in portraits of his Lancaster, NY neighbors.
He resided and maintained his studio out of his home at 5986 Broadway, Lancaster, NY.
