Frances Ruth Carpenter (b. 1882-d.1963)

Born Sept. 12, 1882 at Elberton, Ga., Frances Ruth Carpenter was a college art teacher and an artist.  After receiving a diploma from the State Normal School in Athens, Ga., she taught for six years in the Griffin, Ga., public school system.  She then attended Columbia University teacher's college for two years, earning a bachelor's diploma and a bachelor of science degree in 1912, followed by a master of arts degree, with post-master's work in portrait painting, studying one month at Heatherly School of Art in London, and one month at Provincetown in Browne Art Class.
