Born near Vernon, IN on Sept. 20, 1879. Vawter studied civil engineering at Purdue University and University of Illinois. During 1908-09 he studied art and architecture at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He then moved to southern California and became a successful architect in San Diego and Los Angeles.
