Born in Massachusetts on Sept. 16, 1853. By 1876 Jones had settled in San Francisco. He lived in the home of artist Sarah Slaughter with whom he studied. After the earthquake and fire of 1906 destroyed his home and studio, he moved across the bay to Oakland where he was active as an artist until his death on Aug. 10, 1922.
