Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on July 15, 1877. Lewis received his medical degree from Jefferson College in Philadelphia in 1904. He then set up a medical practice in San Francisco and worked there until moving north to Auburn in 1919. He was a popular physician there and painted landscapes of the area in his leisure until his death on July 9, 1956.
