Born in New York on March 23, 1890. Following service in WWI, Gibbons settled in Los Angeles in 1919. He was designer of the movie industry's statuette, Oscar, and head of the art department of MGM Studios for 33 years. As well as an art director for MGM, he was also a sculptor, painter, and lithographer. He died in Los Angeles at his home on 754 Tortuoso Way on July 26, 1960.
