Harwick was born April 1, 1931 in Kansas. Earned a BFA in 1961and a MFA in 1965 from Wichita State Univ. Taught at Wichita State Univ., at the Wichita Art Museum, and at Fort Hays State College. Exhibited with the Bottega Art Gallery in Wichita in the 1960s.
