Biography Ray O. Smith
Ray O. Smith was born on August 11, 1920 in Vine Creek, Kansas. A pioneer buffalo breeder in Kansas having established a herd in 1962. Smith lived near Longford (Ottawa County) where in the mid-1970s he used steel, stone, and concrete to create a 50-ton, 15' high and 23' long buffalo called "Concretealo" overlooking his ranch. He also created a concrete map of the United States integrating a rock from each state into the design. He died near Longford, Kansas on December 19, 1999.
