Mary Eleanor Hughes was born in Nevada City, CA on Nov. 30, 1897. Upon graduation from the CCAC in 1920, Hughes settled in Berkeley where she acted as color consultant for Friedman Paint Company into the 1950s. A spinster, she died in Berkeley on Sept. 20, 1975.
