Biography Simone de Virgile
Simone de Virgile was born Simone Binon in Milon La Chepelle, France in
1917, to an artistic family. Her father, Georges Binon, was a
concert violinist and her mother, Suzanne Binon (nee Raingo), was a
classical pianist, and a niece by marriage to the French painter Claude
Simone chose to paint and sculpt during her career under the name of "de Virgile," which was her grandmother's maiden name.
In 1935, she began to study painting at the Atelier of Morgan Russell
who was the co-founder of Syncromism in Paris with Stanton
Macdonald-Wright in 1913. His influence on her work can be
clearly seen in both her brightly colored abstract paintings and three-dimensional abstract sculptures, which she called Glypto
