Biography Vivean Oviette
Vivean Oviette, (1918-1990) was born in Graz, Austria and immigrated to the U.S in 1934. Holding several jobs until 1938 she painted as much as time allowed. Shortly thereafter she began her studies at the Franklin School of Fine and Applied Arts in N.Y.
Between 1940-42 she did illustrations for newspapers in Dallas, Texas. Returning to N.Y in the early 1940s, she studied painting at the Art Students League* with Will Barnet and with Ferdinand Leger between 1944-45, and she became a U.S. citizen in 1945.
Between 1946-47, she studied graphics with Stanley William Hayter in New York and in Paris at his Atelier 17*. She also studied with Adja Yunkers from 1947-49.
