Olline M. McDonald was born in Oklahoma on August 16, 1920. McDonald arrived in southern California in 1942 and settled in Calimesa. She studied with Joyce Clark, Vernon Kerr, Leslie B. DeMille, and in Italy at the Positano Art School.
During the 1960s and 1970s, she was active with the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs and served as president of the Buena Art Guild. She had a studio in Bard (Imperial County) where she painted desert landscapes. She died in Cartwright, Oklahoma on April 11, 2005.
