Biography Giovanni Mell
The artist came to Chicago in 1868, and was a member of the Academy of
Design. Among the works executed by him were the decorations of
McVicker's and Hooley's Theatres and the Palmer House.
He also designed the statue of the Blessed Virgin for the dome of the
University of Notre Dame, Indiana. His last work was a group of
three figures representing "Music," for the opera house at Lima, Ohio.
