Flores Marguerite Smith was born in Belvidere, IL on April 25, 1892. Smith moved to California with her family in 1893 and in 1910 settled in San Francisco. A bout with influenza in 1918 left her crippled. While confined to a wheelchair, she painted marines, landscapes, still lifes, and a few portraits. A spinster, Smith died in San Francisco on Aug. 5, 1944.
