Hilda Keel Smith was born in England on Nov. 15, 1872. Smith moved to San Francisco in 1895 and studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. After the earthquake of 1906, she moved across the bay to Marin County. A spinster, she lived in Sausalito and San Rafael until her demise in the latter on Nov. 10, 1957. Known works include Chinatown genre á la Esther Hunt.
