Mabel C. Heyde was born in Illinois in 1893. While studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, Mabel met her husband-to-be, William H. Heyde.
She was living in Los Angeles in 1940, and active in Nevada and southern California during the 1940s. She appears to have remarried after her husband's death in 1955.
Her work includes miniatures and floral still lifes. She signed her paintings with her pseudonym, Mimi Joy.
