Charles Kaiser Sumner was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on May 23, 1874. Sumner graduated from Columbia University and began his career in New York City with Charles F. McKim. After visiting California in 1906, he returned to Berkeley and established a practice. In 1916 he relocated to Palo Alto and continued to build homes in the Bay Area and on the Stanford campus. In his leisure he painted as a hobby with his wife Alice. He died in Palo Alto, CA on May 25, 1948. Member: Palo Alto Art Club.
