Born in 1969, Michael is the grandson of outsider artist Howard Finster. He dropped out of high school to help Howard with his work, cutting plywood for his grandfather's stand-up pieces and applying base coats of paint for Howard to then paint over. His subjects are primarily from the natural world --- snakes, birds, crawling things and religious visions. While the religious imagery is prominent in his work, he also manifests a playful sense of humor and an interest in mythical creatures, such as dragons and aliens.
