Biography Nicolas Fassin
Nicolas Henri Joseph de Fassin was born in 1728 in the Belgian city of Liège (Luik). Painter, he was a watercolourist of Italian Romantic landscapes, animals and people in the Realist style.
Early in life he served in the French army, and it was not until he was thirty-four years of age that he commenced the study of art in the Academy of Antwerpen. He afterwards visited
Italy and Switzerland, and resided for some time at Geneve (Switzerland).
He painted a landscape for the Empress of Russia,for which he was handsomely rewarded. He was with Léonard Defrance (1735-1805) the founder of the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège (Luik).
Nicolas de Fassin died in his native city in 1811.
