George Gus Gemanis was born in Porterville, CA on October 14, 1920. Gemanis studied at Fresno State College under Alexandra Bradshaw and in Mexico at Instituto de Allende. After serving in the Marines as a fighter pilot during WWII, he returned to Fresno and established a commercial art studio. He began painting seriously in 1960 when he entered his first art exhibition. Using brush and palette knife, he created a variety of subjects including still lifes, landscapes, foreign street scenes, and seascapes. He lectured and gave demonstrations in California's central valley before his death in Fresno on June 2, 2005.
