Biography William Gibson
The following information is from Gene Meier, Illinois Art Researcher:
"I stumbled upon William Gibson, father of glass painting in America, and seek further information about him. The NEW YORK TIMES August 1,1879 article,"For Use at State Dinners:The Unique Art of China Ordered for the White House" refers to Theodore Russell Davis, campaign artist for HARPER'S WEEKLY during the Civil War, and panorama artist in the 1880s. Davis was commissioned by the Hayes White House to produce a state dinnerware set. His book was published by Haviland in 1879.
Davis worked with William Gibson to determine correct colors, and worked with Thomas Edison for correct light effects.
