Herbert August Uerpmann (German, 1911-1996) impressionist painter primarily known for his Alpine scenes, mountainscapes, landscapes, city and townscapes, street scenes and floral still lifes.
Herbert was born December 17, 1911 in Barmen (now Wuppertal), North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, to father August Uerpmann (Nov. 29, 1887-Jan. 12, 1965) and mother Anna Emilie (née Finke, unknown dates). He initially studied architecture but soon turned to painting.
He studied under Prof. Wittuchter (19th-20th C.) and Prof. Ludwig Fahrenkrog (German, 1867-1927). He later traveled to Paris, Barcelona and various towns in upper Italy where he continued his painting studies.
