Biography Janet Rickus
The Dutch artists of the seventeenth-century are largely credited with establishing the autonomous genre of still life painting. While Rickus' paintings owe to their accomplishment and technique, she steers clear of the rich old master style favored by some of her contemporaries. Instead, Rickus utilizes strong primary color hues against soft, muted backdrops of pristine space. A low one-to-one perspective brings the objects forward to the viewer's eye level.
