Biography Benxiao Dai
Dai Benxiao (1621-1693) was born in Hezhou, Anhui province. His father Dai Zhong, a devotee of the Ming court, became a monk with the rise of the Qing dynasty and died during a hunger strike in 1646 at the age of forty-five. Before passing away, he asked Dai Benxiao and his brother to be faithful to the old regime and never work for the Qing court. In 1665 Dai Benxiao was forty-five years old and he later published two books of poems, Poems of Early Life and Poems of Remaining Life, taking his age of forty-five as a watershed.
