Edward H. LaVelle was born in Texas in 1911. LaVelle was in the U.S. Army at Fort Laramie, Wyoming in 1930. He later moved to northern California. He won numerous awards in national competitions, among them California Artist of the Year in 1972. His "Redwood Cathedral" and Blue Bonnets and Eycalyptus" were in Ronald Reagan's collection. LaVelle operated an art gallery in Lakeport, CA for many years before his death there in 1999.
