Soedibio was active/lived in Indonesia. Soedibio is known for painting.
Born in Madiun, East Java, Soedibio was a member of the PERSAGI group of revolutionary artists and, with Indonesian maestro S. Sudjojono (1913-1986), established the Young Indonesian Artists' Association. Early in his career, he painted in the realist style, often with revolutionary themes. After his release from Dutch military detention in 1950, he adopted a less politicized artistic language, painting reclusively for almost 16 years until 1966.
As a pioneer generation artist, Soedibio's oeuvre has yet to gain its rightful place in Indonesian art history largely because, during this period of reclusion, he inevitably missed the art discourse in which other Indonesian artists participated.
