Catherine Young Bates was born in Canada in 1934. Catherine received her education at the University of Toronto, the Maryland Institute, and Oxford.
Catherine is famous for her contemporary rendering of landscapes done in the studio and on site. Catherine uses the myth of "Icarus" an as allegory for the “environmental overreach of human beings." She uses bold colors of tube oils and pigment sticks on canvas to create single and sectional format paintings. Guest curator at Yvonne L. Bombardier, Monique Nadeau-Saumier, explains “...
