Biography Merrill Sipherd
Merrill Sipherd was born in 1928 in Long Beach, Ca. He lived in Orange, California from 1930 until 1965 when he moved to Bishop, California with his wife Mary Lou and three daughters, Linda, Nancy and Erin.
He was a self taught artist. His love of horses and the old west are apparent in his paintings. His first art exhibits began in 1964 when a friend, Bill Riffle, an art collector, told him about the Annual Death Valley 49ers Encampment Celebration and Art Show. Merrill then became chairman of the art show for several years.
In a frame shop in Orange, California in the late 1960s, he met David Halbach and invited him to the Death Valley Show. This started David's western art career.
