Jose Molleja y Espinoza (1900-1977)
Born in the city of Ecija, in the Seville province, Andalucia, Spain, Jose Molleja became noted for his portraits and landscapes. Artistically, he was a pupil of Heliodoro Guillen Pebemonti (1863-1940) and Manuel Gonzalez Santos (1875-1949) at the Seville School of Fine Arts. He first exhibited in the Seville Fine Arts Exhibit in 1921 where he was awarded a medal. He continued exhibiting there into the early 1930's.
Molleja was appointed a professor at the Seville School of Arts and Crafts in 1925, under his former instructor Manual Santos who was the Director, a post he held until his retirement 45 years later, in 1970.
