Heinz Windelschmidt was born in 1884. He was a painter, graphic and glass window designer. He was active in Cologne-Sulz.
He studied from 1911 at the Munich academy with Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl. Later, the artist studied with Adolf Hölzel at the Stuttgart Academy. Additionally, he trained at the Dusseldorf Academy.
Windelschmidt went on study trips to Italy and Holland. He worked mainly as a church painter, called upon by Pope John XXIII. He was appointed Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester.
