Theophanis Phoebus Stavropoulos (Theo) was born on the 3rd of June 1930 in Athens, Greece where he lived through some of that country's most tumultuous years. The struggles during the Metaxas Regime ended in 1939 with the invasion of the Italians under Mussolini. Theo claimed that those two years of occupation were mild compared to what came next as Hitler's troops took over the country. Food was scarce. Punishments were extreme. The three children of General Stavropoulos' family were on their own as both parents were imprisoned.
