Mabel Baum was born in California in 1871. Baum grew up in San Francisco and was a pupil of Chris Jorgensen. In 1903 she wed Charles Schlessinger and stopped painting to raise a family.
After the 1906 fire, she moved across the bay to Alameda where she remained until her demise in San Francisco on Dec. 30, 1924.
