Biography James Peter Cost
James Peter Cost was born in 1923 and died in 2002. Cost was a California Plein Aire painter, holding the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and Master of Arts from USC. Cost was a teacher of Fine Art from 1955-1964. He was also co-owner with his wife, BettyJo Cost, of the James Peter Cost Gallery in Carmel from 1964-1989.
Cost was the recipient of $5,000 and the Gold Medal from Franklin Mint in 1975 for the First Award out of 500 entries for the most outstanding American Seascape Artist. Two of his paintings made it to the front cover of Reader's Digest in the 60s and 70s, and many of his images were printed on the covers of California magazines. He received numerous other awards in all media.
