Biography Louis Roberts Dougherty
Louis Roberts Dougherty, Philadelphia was born in 1876 and died in 1948. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy, Drexel Institute, and studied under illustrator Howard Pyle.
Mr. Dougherty achieved a notable reputation in the fields of portraiture, landscape painting, etching, illustration and sculpture. He exhibited regularly at the Pennsylvania Academy, the National Sculpture Society and the American Numismatic Society.
During the First World War, he was a member of the U. S. Shipping Board, as an artist. He was also a member of the Scumblers, a Philadelphia and Bucks County Art Alliance.
