Living in Jamesville and Woodstock, New York and Deer Isle, Maine, Ainslie Burke was a painter and teacher. He studied at the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts, McCoy College, Johns Hopkins University on a Carnegie Foundation Scholarship, the Art Students League in New York City; and the Institute Allende in San Miguel, Mexico.
He was a member of the Art Students League, American Association of University Professors, and the Woodstock Art Association, which he served as President, 1960-1962.
In 1964, he was a visiting professor to Exeter Academy; and then began a career at Syracuse University School of Art: visiting artist, 1962 to 1964; Professor of Drawing and painting from 1964, and from 1964 to 1969, Chairman of the Studio A
