Martha Wheeler Baxter was born in Castleton, VT on Oct. 1, 1869. Baxter studied art at the PAFA, Beaux Arts Institute and Art Students League in NYC, and in Paris at Delecluse and Julian Academies.
She worked in New York for many years before her move to Santa Barbara in 1920. She was active in southern California until her death in Los Angeles on Sept. 2, 1955.
