Obituary. New York Times, January 3, 1959:
Springfield, Mass. January 2, 1959 Miss Mabel R. Welch, a painter of miniatures, died last night at her home in Wibraham after a long illness. She was 87 years old.
Miss Welch, who studied at the Art Students League and in Paris, won the Silver Medal of the Pan-Pacific Exposition in 1915. The Pennsylvania Society of Miniature Painters presented to her its Medal of Honor in 1920, and she received a similar award in 1933 from the Brooklyn Society of Miniature Painters.
In 1937 Miss Welch received two awards. The National Society of Women Painters and Sculptors gave her the Lindsey Morris Sterling Prize for Miniatures and the California Society of Miniatur
