Humborg was well-known for his humoristic scenes of monks, the central motif of his entire artistic output.  Since he had repeatedly exhibited at the Glaspalast in Munich between 1879 and 1911, he decided to become a permanent resident in 1913.  Besides, he also exhibited in London, where he was awarded the silver medal in 1893 and the bronze medal in 1894.  Adolf died in 1921.
