Augusta Jensen


Augusta Jensen, daughter of utility cartridge Andreas Elieson, was born in 1858 in Grums. Just 19 years old, she traveled to Düsseldorf on her own and studied painting for three years for Bengt Nordenberg.

In 1883, she went to Paris.  The following year to Italy and Capri. She was fascinated by the island and its inhabitants like other Nordic artists such as Anshelm Schultzberg, Lotten Rönquist, Marie and P.S. Kröyer.  It is during these years that Augusta Jensen's artistry blossoms.

Augusta Jensen was a brilliant portrait painter, but her work is rare at auction. Many of them were destroyed when the studio at Orrholmen in Karlstad was burned shortly after he  ...  Displaying 750 of 909 characters.
