Benjamin Franklin Butler

Benjamin Franklin Butler was born in France in 1816. Butler worked in New Orleans in 1841 and NYC 1846-48. Joining the Gold Rush, he migrated to San Francisco where he quickly established a business with John H. Gihon which engaged in bookselling, bookbinding, publishing, and lithography. During the 1850s their shop produced lithographs of city views and mining scenes. Butler died in San Francisco in 1868. Works Held: De Young Museum; California Historical Society.
